AirTest Introduces BACnet™ Communicating CO2 Sensor To Expand Market Opportunity

DELTA, BC, November 6, 2012 AirTest Technologies (TSXV: AAT) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the TR9294-BAC CO2 transmitter that is BACnet™ communicating.  BACnet™ is a leading network communication protocol for building automation and control systems.  The BACnet protocol is used to easily and inexpensively network sensors and systems in all types of new and existing buildings.  Developed under the auspices of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), BACnet™ is an American national standard, a European standard and a national standard in more than 30 countries.  BACnet™ currently has a 47% share of the building control market in the USA and 25% share in Europe according to Building Controls Industry Association.

George Graham, President of AirTest advises that “The addition of BACnet™ communication capability to our CO2 transmitter line has two important benefits for Airtest.  Firstly, it opens up a large new market for our products, and secondly, BACnet™ communication capability significantly reduces the cost of installation of our sensors.  By decreasing the cost of installation, we will increase the savings offered by the project and shorten the payback time for the total project cost.”  Graham added that, “Over the next six months we will be adding this capability to all of our most popular sensor platforms.”

The TR92904-BAC Bacnet™ communicating CO2 transmitter has already been evaluated positively by a number of BACnet™ control companies and has undergone evaluation at the BACnet Interoperability Testing Service (BITS) where the TR9294-BAC was successfully tested for compatibility on a controls network with hundreds of other BACnet devices operating.  An identical evaluation of the product at the BACnet Testing Laboratory (BTL) is scheduled in the near future. According to Graham, “Given the amount of pre-testing we have done on the TR9294-BAC we feel confident the product will work with all BACnet™ devices that have the BTL mark.”

AirTest’s CO2 transmitters are used in buildings to save energy by controlling ventilation based on actual occupancy.  CO2 sensors are placed in a building much like thermostats and work with existing building control equipment to better control fresh air ventilation.  In most buildings 20% to 40% of heating and cooling is devoted to conditioning outside air.
